EMBODYING INTERSECTIONAL ENGAGEMENT
Unlike the many environmental organizations that have come before us, IntersectECO is a student-led, grassroots organization determined to unite prepare and empower generations of students to embody environmental stewardship by first embracing practices of meaningful civic engagement and awareness of intersectional social issues.
WHO ARE WE?
Working Towards a Better Tomorrow
Unlike the many environmental organizations that have come before us, IntersectECO is a student-led, grassroots organization determined to unite prepare and empower generations of students to embody environmental stewardship by first embracing practices of meaningful civic engagement. We are student-led and operate primarily on college campuses, small local community groups, and activist organizations, as we embrace the fact that there is "student" in all of us that continues to listen and learn, regardless of age or occupation. That is why we encourage the involvement of not only students currently in attending affiliated institutions, but also faculty and alumni to stay involved in the conversation and incorporated in all of our future events.
Understanding the Balance
So often in the fight for climate justice do activists get caught up in the necessity for urgent and immediate action. At IntersectECO we work to balance that urgency with tangible action steps toward self-sustaining, organic community development. Climate justice is inherently intersectional, but due to the "special interest" categorization of environmental education, so many of our peers lack exposure to such a vast subject matter that truly effects us all. Thus, with a dual focus on urgent action and organic community growth, IntersectECO aims to develop a more accessible environmental movement by creating a platform for individual self-discovery with regards the earth, nature, and intersectional social issues, subsequently forming a more united body of change agents. This newly formed collective can then act greater in numbers with broader perspectives that will help us dismantle and defeat the actors of climate injustice once and for all.
